Client's interests first

It's about your goals. You and your goals remain at the center of our investment management services every step of the way.  Since risk is the probability that you may not achieve your goals, we seek to identify, discuss and monitor these risks, whether measurable or not.  We seek to give you peace of mind about your investments and a higher likelihood that you will reach your goals.

Our Principles

Our Process

Fee Only
  • Compensated by fees only, not commissions.
  • Serve you as a fiduciary, putting your best interest ahead of our own.
  • Be transparent: fee disclosures, performance reporting, investment policy statement.
Goal Focused
  • Understand deeply your life goals and the tradeoffs you prefer when achieving those goals.
  • Establish your asset allocation based on your goals and exposure to multiple risks, rather than your answers to a few 'risk profile' questions.
  • Measure your investment performance based on your improved or decreased likelihood of achieving your goals.
  • When implementing your spending strategy, sell assets designated to each obligation.
Tax Aware, Cost Conscious
  • Measure the costs that affect your ability to achieve your goals: advisory fees, management fees, trading costs, bid/ask spreads, income and capital gains taxes, and others.
  • Evaluate every step in our investment management process to determine its benefits and costs.
  • Use sophisticated tax management strategies as a normal part of our investment management process.
Factor Based Diversification
  • To reduce various types of risk, stay broadly diversified.
  • While staying broadly diversified, tilt toward factors that are sensible, persistent, pervasive, robust and cost-efficient to capture.
  • In equities, tilt toward company size, relative price, profitability, and a few others.  In fixed income, tilt toward the term premium and the credit premium.
  • Prefer investment assets with low expense ratios, favorable tax characteristics, and proven track records.
  • Our partner: Dimensional Fund Advisors. We leverage the investment process and investment solutions provided by DFA, a low-cost approach to research-based investing.
Quantify Your Resources and Your Obligations
  • Quantify your resources (income and assets) available to meet your goals and obligations.
  • Quantify your goals (obligations) as to amount and timing.
  • Estimate your cash flow needs for each year of your planning horizon.
  • Identify the major risks that could keep you from fully meeting your obligations.
Select Investments that Match Our Principles and Your Goals
  • Search the world of investments to find those that match our principles and standards.  Narrow the list further to those more suited to your obligations.
  • Measure the costs associated with each investment asset: management fees, taxes, trading costs, bid/ask spreads, and more.
Match Your Resources to Your Obligations
  • For each of your obligations, select investment assets that give you the highest likelihood of successfully meeting that need.  Examine expected returns, various risks, tax characteristics, and other costs and fees.
  • Combine these goal-focused assets to determine your total allocation.
  • Our process is more transparent and intuitive than classic asset allocation.
  • Document your portfolio with an Investment Policy Statement.
  • Write your Investment Policy Statement personalized to your needs and parameters.
  • Our partners: Fidelity, Asset Dedication. Your assets would be custodied at Fidelity, one of the largest custodian firms in the world with more than $5.4 trillion in client assets. You retain control of your investments through Fidelity.
Monitor, Report, Adjust, Evolve
  • Monitor the global markets and economic conditions, watching for changes in risk and opportunities.
  • Review our selected investment assets.
  • Report to you how your portfolio is performing compared to your specific goals.
  • Rebalance your portfolio as determined by its performance relative to your goals, not based on a randomly-set allocation range.
Fees: sliding scale based on amount of assets managed

Our consultative-driven process is built around delivering sound advice for the client and not around product sales.  Because changes in your own world and changes in the external world occur frequently, our approach is to go on the journey with you and work with you over the long-term.

1. Listen & Understand

  • Client’s unique situation
  • Goals, concerns, and family, financial situation

2. Analyze & Discuss

  • Focus on details, research, analyze
  • Point out gaps and opportunities
  • Educate on options, have a meaningful dialogue with client

3. Advise & Implement

  • Collaborate with outside advisors
  • Do not sell product (contrast with most advisors)

4. Evolve & Adjust

  • Life is dynamic
  • Ongoing, long-term relationship

Fiduciary Approach.

As fiduciary advisors, we have chosen to put our client’s interest first. It is more than a legal standard – it is how we think clients should be treated.

Long-term view.

While we believe good advice is built on some degree of analysis, a successful long-term relationship is built on getting to know each other and being open to sharing.

Each client is truly unique

Investment Managers - experienced investment partners.

When clients choose Oasis for investment management, they are receiving experienced investment professionals that adhere to a strategic investment philosophy based on academic research.  Oasis Wealth Planning is thrilled to have a collaborative arrangement with Asset Dedication to deliver strategic and low-cost investment management solutions to our clients. Asset Dedication is a boutique third party asset manager that is rooted in academics but based on practical application to meet the client’s goals. In connection with Asset Dedication, we use Fidelity as custodian for our clients' assets.

Our firm primarily employs Dimensional Fund Advisors (DFA) funds in reaching the desired asset allocation mixes and global diversification.  Although DFA is one of the largest independently-owned investment management firms and has been around since 1981, they do not advertise. Their funds are available only to institutions and a select group of independent advisors.  DFA employs evidenced-based decision making, seeks tax efficiency (i.e., strive to keep turnover and transaction costs low), and tends to be low cost relative to other managers.

Virtual Meetings

We can meet you through secure web-conferencing! It’s easy technology, and it makes it easy for you! The first step is to call us to begin the conversation.

Who will benefit from virtual planning?

You are a Middle Tennessee resident, but the timing just does not allow you to meet during regular business hours. For example, you may be a doctor that just can’t get away, or your duties at home make it harder to get away.

You are outside of Middle Tennessee but think we would be a good fit for your financial planning and wealth management needs!

Ground rules

  • We have as open conversations as we would in regular face-to-face meetings.
  • Advising on planning is built on trust, and long-term relationships are built on knowing each other. This is still easy to do through web- conferencing. Steve takes his virtual clients as seriously as he does his "in-person" clients.

When do you provide virtual meetings?

  • When it is convenient for you.
  • During regular business hours, select weeknights, or select Saturdays.

Can we still meet in person?

  • You bet.
  • Depending on the situation and your location, we typically still like to meet in person when appropriate whether it is once a year or once in a while.

What does it entail?

  • Turning on your computer, opening an email invite from Steve, and making a couple of clicks. It’s that easy.
  • You can set it up to where you just see Steve, or you can show your face as well.

Cool Technology

  • We can share our screen to allow you to see our reports, analysis, educational materials right there on screen.
  • We can also mail out hard copies if you prefer.

First Step

Call us to discuss your situation
